Try As I Might, I Exist
Try as I might,
I cannot see why the world turns so.
It seems too cruel to be true.
Freedom chained, Individuality snuffed, Originality laughed at.
I must be this and do that.
But do I still exist under all the lies?
Try as I might,
I can see the shining light.
I look to the clouds, see past the silver, and find the stars.
I break the chains with my writing,
Create individuality with my art.
Set the path to originality every day,
I still exist despite the harm I face.
Try as I might,
I cannot be held down.
I break the boundaries that limit me.
I look at the image reflected and shatter the glass.
It binds and distorts and mirrors the words of hate.
I build back the image as I see it.
That is where I exist.
Try as I might,
I ignore the critics, with their words of acid,
Eating away at my self-esteem.
Their taunts are kindle, fueling the fire in me,
Each tear I shed makes me stronger.
I will stand strong, I will carve my own path.
The mighty may fall, but I will rise.
In this world, I will exist.
Try as I might,
I will shed the filters people see me through.
I am more than just smart and kind.
Sarcasm and nerdy jokes are in my mind.
Books are my escape, imagination is the key.
Most don't see that, but I dream the impossible.
I don't think with just logic,
But with unreal solutions.
Being myself is where I exist.
Try as I might, I still exist.
