Trent's Reason Why

My room is stained
From splattered blood.
This silence kills
My soul.
My Angel's gone
Out of my reach.
Now my life is as black
As coal.
You wouldn't approve
Of the life I'm living.
But I can't move
The blade.
I'm paralyzed
In this unspeakable position.
But I refuse to admit,
I'm afraid.
My heart is empty.
A black abyss.
My blood continues
To spill.
Loneliness.
It breeds depression.
That's why I took
The pill.

Ok back-story time!! I wrote this poem for one of my characters, so if you don't understand why it's so depressing, I hope this explains it! Trent Cain is a sixteen year old boy with abusive parents, and a nineteen year old brother that's in the army. He fell in love with a girl named Dakota, and they dated for a few months, but he started to get to clingy. Eventually, she broke up with him because he was abusing her. In Trent's defense, that is the only way he was ever taught to show he cared. He never saw his parents do anything but fight, so naturally, he thought hurting Dakota was the only way to show he loved her. Unfortunately for him, Dakota's family didn't see it that way, and soon had him arrested. He sat alone in his jail cell, with nothing lethal on him but a single pill that he snuck past the strip search. He felt absolutely alone in the world, since his parents didn't care, and he had lost his friends when he pushed them aside to hang out with Dakota. The only way he could think to end the silence, was to end his life. Before he took the pill, he wrote this poem for his brother, in hopes that it would explain why he did it. Even under these conditions, suicide or self-harm is never the answer. If you are contemplating either please understand that things are going to get better, and you are never alone. God is always with you, and He is always ready to listen. If you need to talk, feel free to get in touch with me at any time!
