Thirteen Years of This

Why did you become

A teacher when you hate

It so much? Coming in at

Seven in the morning makes you

Mean. Answering questions leaves you cross,

But it's your job, so what is the issue?

You don't get paid enough? I'm sorry, but you chose

This career. Surely you didn't expect to make

Six figures? You even have the summers off; you can't think

A job you chose because you thought it would be easy to

Pay off in the long run, can you? So, please, smile at me, answer

My questions like it's okay for me to not understand, and get

Over that my future isn't gone, after all, I'm only seventeen.
