there is no snow in summer (and it is always summer here)

the sun is high and heavy in the sky

sinking towards the horizon line.

and tonight's the first time in a long time,

i could speak to you without crying.

isn't there some line i crossed somewhere?

don't you see, i'm a little lost.

without your guiding presence beside me,

i'm not sure where on earth i could be.

time is crawling slowly back and i

am walking such a lonely path.

crosswalks divide at the intersection,

where i see you walk to your heaven.

and while i'm here standing at the back,

dear, is it sunrise in iraq?

is there a fiery sky in the east,

wrapping 'round battered hearts like a sheet?

tonight it all started at midnight,

and it really was quite a sight.

see the artists in the ambulances,

girls and boys dancing one-last-dances.

the light's small so i blot it with my hand,

and i smile just because i can.

underneath a bright pink sunrise sky,

are you and i that far behind?
