There is a Loudness in the Night

Wed, 03/30/2016 - 02:15 -- Max M

Ticking watches too quiet to hear in bustle of day,

Flickering street lamps that emit electrical buzzing,

Whispers from beyond shut doors of lovers after loving,

These are the loudnesses of the night.

During the daytime, the bustle deafens us

To the soft keynote disguised as background sounds.

During the daytime, the sun blinds us

To the galaxies and worlds far beyond our own.

During the daytime, our minds shield us

From thoughts filed neatly away in folders that read Confidential.

But under the veil of night,

Piano orchestras play songs for us precedently unknown;

The black sky illuminates gives a backdrop to the stars above us;

All fears, regrets, speculations, and hopes are withdrawn from their concealment.

Not until most everybody

Is tucked away into a quiet space,

Can the daily sounds of background

Be heard.

But when they can,

It is easy to sense,

That there is a loudness

In the quiet of the night.
