Thank You, Impossibly High Social Standards

Can you hear me?
Are you listening?
Good.
I just need to say thank you
Impossibly high social standards,
Cookie cutter people
Who try to force me
Into a cookie cutter shape -
A simple square,
Maybe an equilateral triangle
Or a perfect circle.
Thank you for teaching me to question,
Question what is right and what is wrong,
What is and should be.
Thank you for teaching me
When I should ignore the unspoken rules,
And when I should pay attention.
Thank you for pushing me,
Not to fit in,
But to stand out,
To accept that the standards need to change,
That society needs to change.
And thank you
Impossibly high social standards
For giving me the will power
To do absolutely anything
To eliminate you.
Thanks, from a product of society.
