Thank You

When I think of you, I think of all that you’ve put me through.

I feel the imprint you left on my mind, on my heart.

One might see light. One might see dark.

I was the seedling you found, so fragile, so small.

When you planted me, you didn’t know my worth.

You only saw the teardrop lying in the dirt.

You only felt the coldness of your own earth.

Caught me at a time, I didn’t know was mine.

Carried by the wind,

Would you consider your lies a beautiful sin?

You didn’t want to grow with me; you wanted to push me further into the ground…

Where your soul lies, where (many, no one, nothing, disappointment) can be found.

Where the lights go out. Where you knew you could hide.

It’s there trapped in a space of little white lies, that I sought the light for it has nothing to hide.

Little did you know, it’s in the darkness that roots grow.

I will admit, at one point in time, I wanted to entangle your roots with mine

Intertwine? The problem was you like to pick flowers of many kind.

Then, I learned I was not one to be picked.

I still had many places to go, other people have water, sunshine…the sky is my home.

I thank you for the pain. I thank God for the rain. With both, I was able to see and find myself whole.

I still have roots connected to your name.

Hopefully, someone will know how to play your game.

It’s then you will remember my name.

Far, far out of reach…Oh what a lesson you teach.
