Teachers can be Bullies Too

Thu, 12/12/2013 - 11:15 -- cfeasel

Anger and frustration built up inside

As I smiled on the outside, and I lied and I lied.

No, I’m not upset about the derogatory way

That my teacher repeatedly used the word “gay”,

Or the way that she laughed, and calmly she joked

While in suffocating suppression, the gay community did choke.

After all, she’s a teacher with gay students in her room,

How dare she make that comment and calmly just assume

That everyone is okay with this subtle discrimination?

I am not gay. I have fallen in love

With a boy who everything I could possibly dream of

But I understand that love is not a choice,

Just because he loves men doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t have a voice.

Love is love no matter who it is towards,

Everyone should acknowledge this, even schools and school boards.

You are my teacher, you should show me the way,

Not make nasty comments about how something is “gay”.

Bullying is only tolerated if you happen to be gay because you should not be    proud of your sexuality.

Some teachers act out this commonly practiced fallacy

But in school we should feel safe,

Not as though we have to hide behind a false face.

This is a thought I can’t say to her directly because the teacher is always right

And is close-minded to another person’s insight.

This needs to change, this rudimentary feature

So that we can stand up and say this stuff to our teachers.
