Tainted

Medusa started out like any young girl,

Believing that she could conquer the world.

For she was the prettiest of all the Gorgon sisters,

No one dared to try and resist her.

A natural beauty with long flowing hair,

Fair skin and eyes so bright they made her sisters feel it was all so unfair.

One day Medusa caught the wrong man’s eye;

and was raoed in a cave by nonother than Poseidon.

Instead of being cared for by loving friends and wrapped in endless affection

Medusa was punished by Athena with snake extensions.

Medusa’s Face still bared beauty and grace,

But no one could take even a glance

Without being the bearer of a harsh circumstance.

They would be turned to stone once they looked into her eyes

And even those who had heard the legend appeared surprised.

So for one “mistake” that wasn’t her fault

Medusa was labeled and cast out.

She couldn't have stopped what happened,

But everyone else could have easily had a different reaction.

She should not have been punished for what cannot be undone,

But should have been treated as a loved one.

She is not tainted,

But scarred.

And not broken

But forever barred.

She is in need of love and support,

But only received her friends endless retort.

Tragedy is no one’s fault except the inflictor,

so instead of teaching us how to avoid rape and being assulted

We should spend some time figuring out why these events resulted,
