Summer and yellow flowers
When the days are blue
And the skies are gray
And the ones you love
Seem far away
When the hours are long
And the nights are cold
And your aching heart
Is getting old
When the flowers wilt
And the songbirds cry
And your little girl
Stops coming by
When you lay there still
And you wait for days
And you listen close
But she never prays
When ants make way
And they get to bone
And life grows dull
And she feels alone
When memories rot
In stagnant air
And the smell of smoke
Lingers there
