Struggles I Face

Look at me.
I sense the urgency in her voice.
I turn and gaze into her eyes.
What do you see?
A young woman,
her strong face and daring eyes
are wild yet gentle.
look again.
I concentrate harder.
I notice the hardened mouth,
her body turned away
and her hair in a tangled mess.
Do you love me?
Those innocent words
cause my heart to cringe
and my eyes begin to water.
I do not answer.
She leans in,
her arm extended out
wanting me to take her hand.
try and remember me.
I need you.
I need you to love me again.
I lean into her
putting my hand on the mirror.
For the longest time I just stand there,
and all I manage to do is cry.
