Stripped Away

They take away our freedoms
and expect us to be okay with it
They make the rules now
And leave us asking,
"What happened to our rights?"
We have been robbed blind
by those we elected to lead us
We sit here and live day by day
trying to make-do withwhat we have left
As those few things left are being taken away
The values we use to have are gone
Where is the respect and honesty
we use to live with as a rule?
These civil rights we had,
No longer seem to matter
No longer seem to exist
No longer may we breathe in
the wonderful air of freedom
For that has been stripped away
The winds of time
have stripped away all traces
Of the world the way it use to be.
Where is the tranquility?
It use to be here
Now we know nothing
Nothing but hate and anger.

I really like how you break up the poem with the lines "No longer seem to matter / No longer seem to exist / No longer may we breathe in" because the negativity of the no really drives the point of the poem- that civil rights have been taken away from many individuals and we have to fight to get them back. Great poem! Have you written an ode poem? Check out the "Resources" section for ideas and inspiration.

I've written one before but I like unstructured because I feel like I can express myself alot more freely and am not confined to the boundarys and limits of the structured styles such as odes. my opinion but thnk you so much!!! I'm glad you liked it.
