Stranger in the Stall
Dear stranger,
You moved swiftly through the halls. During class,
you would hide in the bathroom stalls. You thought no one knew your name.
But I did, for it was I who was to blame.
After school you would run, run away.
I wondered why, I did not see you all day.
The next day, the classroom was cold and barring.
And as I turned I caught you staring.
At me, I was not sure. Though I had a clue,
for the other girl was quite the lure.
My face went red with rage, for why she. What did
she have, I could not see.
She isn’t right for you. No not at all! Now this time, it was me
hiding in the stall.
I watched as you and her walked hand in hand.
And as for me, I was just a stand.
A stand at this school where no one knew my
name. Except for you,
for you were the one to blame.
Now I run, run away. And you wonder,
why you don’t see me everyday.
I’m just a shadow now, at this school.
Are you happy now that you’re cool.
One day you’ll soon realize. Realize that this world is just full of shadows like me.
And soon after you’ll come running back, back to what used to be.
-Sincerely, the shadow of what used to be
