Staying Strong

A simple hello could lead to a million things

But of course we know that now

You made my heart race when first we locked eyes across the table

But now your presence calms me more than anything ever has

You said that nice guys always finish last

But I told you that wasn't true

You were the innocent boy too blind to see the way girls wanted to take advantage of you

But I went for the boys with smiles that sparkled and eyes that promised the world and lust filled hearts

Everyone joked that we should date, despite our adament protests

But there was no denying the blush in our cheeks and the way our eyes could never quite meet for long

It was just two friends hanging out

But that night later ment so much more

We never kissed, we barley held hands

But your words touched me more than anyone before you had ever tried with their hands

The stolen glances in the hallway, the quick words exchanged in passing seemed superficial

But they made all the difference

During our conversations you slowly took my hand

But never would I have imagined our bodies would fit like puzzle pieces too

A first kiss is never forgotten

But the way we both grinned from ear-to-ear during it is unforgettable

Games of chance had always been my style

But you are something I'd never dream of gambling away

You asked if we would still chill together when summer started, you were so used to being left

But you asked the question I held unspoken in my own heart

Two years later I stood before you, my enlisted sailor, leaving for camp, pondering the same question

But was there even an answer necessary

It was the look that passed between us, the mutal understanding that we didn't have an end

But with everyone else silence is defening, with you it is reassuring

We found our infinity, because we have no end

But others call us foolish, our declarations of love flimsy;blind to their own occhiolism

Not a soul on Earth will understand us

But what matters is our understanding of the other

We will never experience this again

But why would we want to

I know we say it in so many ways, through our be safes and have a good days

But saying I love you has an undeniably wonderful ring to it

It was never supposed to be you, ask anyone and they will confirm it

But oh how glad I am that it is
