A Stately House It Is

A stately house it is!

With elegant architecture and an embellished door

However the interior

Is full of gore

It smells

Of burning flesh- Of death

And often one hears wails

And the sound of someone gasping for breath

Also the smell of a protein

It's not from kitchen crud

It is a smell very distinct

It's human blood

And blood flows

In water's stead

And terror grows

In the atmosphere of dread

And presents surface

In every room a human goes

However it's not money

It's human bones

A Southern home

For all to see

Complete with reminders

Of morbid history

This poem is about:
My community
My country
Our world
