Standing Out

Location

A brilliantly beautiful wildflower,

in a field of oats and wheat.

A redwood tree, the only survivor,

after a brutal fire with scorching heat.

A single colored girl,

drowning in a sea of white.

A hospital patient battling a rare disease,

one in a million, continuing to fight.

A ragged, defeated homeless man,

begging for warmth and money.

A billion buzzing bees,

guarding their precious, golden honey.

A mustard yellow Mallard duckling,

whose egg was switched at birth.

Following its new mother Goose closely,

oh the many wonders of the Earth.

Diversity means originality,

being yourself, a shining star.

Living in the moment every second of every day,

standing out will take you far.

This poem is very well written.  One question...Why "a million bees" in the middle of a poem that is    talking about one being standing out?  Rhythm is good; rhyme is good. If I were still teaching English and writing, I would give this an A.

I took "A million bees" as symbolism to people and society. The bees protecting their "precious golden honey" are people protacting their wealth. They don't want to share their sweet resources with the homeless man. People are like bees all in all.

I liked the rhyme scheme but the overall moral of the story for me didn't connect enough with the inconsistent movement that was this poem. yes it was well written and i give a big Brava, i am just saying each four lines has a poem inside just edging to get out
