Stage Fright

Let’s be honest

I’m uncomfortable up here

Under these lights

All of your eyes on me

While I share a poem with you.

I’m not a big fan of sharing

I tend to keep to myself when it comes to poetry.

The ideas written in this “not-diary”

Are personal to say the very least.

Please, don’t shoot!Don’t judge me for my train of thought

When I’m vulnerable

Up here,

On stage,

Sharing with you.

It’s uncomfortable and,

If I can revert to vernacular, it’s quite icky.

But honestly, I’m excited to share.

I’ve never shared poetry on-stage before.

It’s uh… quite an experience.

It’s part of my journey

To learn more of myself,

To grow as a person

And I hope that, through this experience,

The one we share together,

Right now,

You’ll grow.

You’ll be inspired to come up here

To be yourself

And enjoy who you are

Regardless of what others say

And maybe,

One day,

You’ll share your own story.
