St James Infirmary

Saint James Infirmary blues
Caught me this morning
My baby caught a bullet to the head
Only one shot
And she was dead

Gal laid on that long, white table
Blessed forever more
Leaving the cursed world
Flying free in a better

Doll, when I join ya
It’ll be a bright, easy morning
Simple it will come
When the angels take this old soul away
The day of my arrival—our reunion—
Will be sweet n joyous

But for now I’m alone
In this wide world
With no one to share
For now, I curse the man who took you away
Maybe I’ll shorten his days
And my own so I can see you

Oh revenge is an intangible task
One that’ll burden my life
Destroy my legeacy

I’ll let my tears do the talking
And my stiff body do my walking
I watch you lay in that damned infirmary
Looking so peaceful and content

God bless her
I have to let her go
To be free in heaven
To watch down on me
Walking these paths on Earth

But for now,
Jazz takes my heart
While tears fill my soul
It’s a class cast of that damn
Saint James Infirmary blues
