Sparrow

Every sparrow gets the chance to sing
A lively song, befitting each new voice
So may the happy birdwatchers rejoice
For every little sparrow loves the spring

If the wary watcher stumbles on a crow
Would he then ask that bird to sing?
No! For other skills the crow could better bring
He's no better voice than of the earth below

So let us not ask that crow for a song
Ask not a fish to climb a tree, nor dog to build a home
Let the artists paint, let the poet write her poem
For if we do not, none will last for long

For never will I the sparrow be
As long as the birdwatcher cannot see
