The Song of Life

Music can change a mind.

Where words fail

Music simply picks up.

Where a motivational speech loses a war

A drum encourages the soldiers to victory.

Where classroom notes are forgotten

Music marks the heart.

This is what you did for me.

You changed my mind,

you influenced my decisions - my passions.

A simple, soft note

That could not be heard over the sounds of the night -

I heard it through my being.

It persisted through

the tragedy of loss

the gift of love

and the satisfaction of victory.

Your song moved me in ways the opposite gender could never.

Your melody tickled me like a caring parent to a newborn.

Your song's story retells the story of my life - from beginning to end.

As this song comes to a close,

I play an arpeggiated chord

with every note resounding the way yours did.

A hot tear rolls down my cheek,

reminding me of the love you have shown me.

As my chord fades, so your loving smile grows.

Until nothing is left,

but the warmth of this memory.
