Something Oddly Beautiful
Something Oddly Beautiful
Hannah Bubar
There’s something oddly beautiful about darkness.
How it turns the spacious sky grey,
and the plantlife the greenest of green.
How darkness can shed light on one’s true self,
Showing their demons,
Or the demons themselves.
Laughing,
And tormenting poor souls.
Do you like the darkness as much as I do?
The way it makes you mourn and crave the light.
Darkness is a plague that consumes like fire,
Singeing hopes and dreams
Some might say that color is overrated,
But darkness makes color stand out and more beautiful.
The trees stand tall and still, while the leaves
Wave like the salty tears from the sky.
Those tears are a cycle that never ends,
But always begins.
Even though some might say I’m filled with light,
Or radiate positivity,
But my true love is the darkness.
It’s been with me for years,
And with those tears,
It has also brought me comfort.
I can’t sleep when the lights are on,
I need them all off.
To sleep, I turn off the lights to turn off my conscious, and anxious mind,
Leaving me in peaceful silence and darkness.
