Something Like A Lotus

It was me, myself, and I.

Darkness cradled me in its arms.

We created a bond like no other.

A seed cold and alone in my shell.

Growing out my roots farther and further.

Sprouting, begging to reach for the surface.

There were times where the darkness swallowed me back down,

but my roots push me forward, towards the light.

That's when I broke surface

and tasted the light.

Slowly, the beginning of a bloom and a first petal.

First one, then more, until the bloom was whole.

Created my own beautiful colors.

There are still times I think about the darkness,

especially when the rough rain and harsh winds hit.

My roots keep me strong.

I continue to bloom, lotus like.

Grew out of the darkness

and radiate into the light.

I am Lotus.
