soft is strong

Can I touch you like this?
Here, where people can see?
Is it okay for them to watch this caress?
Or should I still jerk my hand away before it reaches your wrist?

I'm older now.
I see my life falling apart in a much clearer way
So it makes me feel even guiltier
To lose myself in you.

I lie awake at night, like most nights,
And try not to think about how your ankles
have been covered for months now.
The triangle etched forever on your Achilles heel
stays hidden, protected, from the unkind world you live in

But I know that soft is strong
So that must mean that you're the strongest and bravest of all
Because while the rest of the world is caught in these nasty, entitled tangles
You stay sweet, lovely, and kind.
And I can't help but fall further into your gentleness.
