Society is Not a Dream

You say to follow our dreams, To do what we want, To pursue the passion we desire, Yet that is a lie, isn't it? You tell us to take the classes we want, But then you recommend them, We are but mere pieces of clay, That are molded into what society wants us to be, Something that is viewed as "normal", While the others are looked down upon, Dreams are meant to be broken, Is what society says, As the the main jobs you can have are ones like doctors, Lawyers, CEOs and all the like, But what about the singers?, The artists, the poets? All those that convey emotions that society views as weak, They desire songs, paintings, and poems, That speak of the norms happening today, Drugs and sex, Society is nothing but a monster, A monster that crushes a little child's dream of being somebody, Their own person, And transforms them into another statue for their collection, A collection they call society, Dreamers they throw away as outcasts, The point to be taken, Is that society is not a dream

I liked how easy the words flowed from my head through my fingers and onto the screen. I wasn't think of creating a good enough poem to hopefully win the scholarship. I was actually letting my own emotions transfer into words that may or may not relate to others. I wanted to show people like me who had their dreams crushed, and people who are following a "dream", that the jobs society portrays as "dreams" are just what they call "normal", and the rest are viewed as outcasts. It hurts me to see people get tricked by people they loved into something that they themselves don't want to truly do. They are given no choices! Their lives are played out already for them, and that is just sick!
