So What is Love?

I entered the world helpless and vulnerable

You held me in your arms, assuring me that everything was going to be ok

You taught me what it meant to be loved from the very moment I was born

I spent my childhood in desperation and fear

You took me in as your own

You called me your girl; your baby

You helped rid me of my fears

You helped me shy away from the desperation from attention

You gave me that attention and showed me that you loved me

Even when nobody else was there for me, you were always there

I walked into your house with sadness in my eyes and a fake smile on my face

You saw past my barriers and knew something was wrong

You hugged me and told me you loved me

You listened when nobody else would and told me that everything would be okay

You knew when I needed help and you were by my side

I had everything when you had nothing

You left everything behind so you can be closer to me

You moved to a new city

You started from the beginning; you only had me

You sacrificed everything you had to make sure I was happy

I told you about my accomplishments

You told me you were proud of me

You helped shape my future and make me who I am

You supported everything even when I felt hopeless

I went to your house with the anticipation that I would leave with a smile

You bought every little doll and toy that you knew would make me happy

You cooked all my favorite meals

You took the time to play cards and chess with me

You took me swimming every year of my life, even when it was unbearably hot outside

You made it possible; you made me happy even when I felt that I could never smile again

I only had three months to spend back home

You were understanding and you gave me the freedom to leave
