Sleep Well

Our first kiss was one to build dreams on

And I did.

But you woke up long before me,

And darling, I'm still dreaming.

Your arms felt like home,

My own safe haven from life's brutal touch.

Your smile was the welcome mat

That beckoned me in to meet your lips.

But when I took one step towards my future

You took two steps away,

Leaving me homeless and begging for your love on the streets.

Without it, I've been lost in the wilderness to far away from your heartbeat

To find my way back.

I needed you to need me just as much as I needed you.

I woke up from a nightmare last night clinging to my pillow

Thinking it was your arm.

We used to say "Sleep well, sweet dreams, my love"

And now I can't even close my eyes.
