The Sky Knows

Location

The sky is a dark blue as she writes by the lake
The wind whispers sweet comfort in her ears
As it blows her dark hair out of her teary eyes
She is pouring out her emotions onto paper
With a bittersweet taste on her tongue

She rips up the weathered paper with words of frustration
The dawn breaks and she starts a fire
She throws the pieces in and the fire eats them up
Until they are nothing
But ashes

The sky turns brighter; tones of orange and red
The colors of anger, fear, passion, and hate
The sky knows; it understands the girl
They remember, together, when she was here before

She strummed her brown guitar in the heat of the summer sun
He snuck up from behind her
He kissed her gently
She weakened at his touch
She wanted to be accepted, to be loved, to be free
That is all she wanted

They stop remembering because it is too much to bear
The boy is gone
The guitar is gone
The desire is gone

The sky quiets, empties itself
The water sleeps softly in peace
She doesn't dare disturb its beauty
She closes her eyes to find not darkness
But purity, clarity
White
