what hooks me are the simple things

like lemon cough drops

or reading novels that

no one really knows about

and how sometimes

if the feeling is mutual

a kiss sparks a fire

between two friends

the sun rises and falls

like when i try to wake

and hot showers in the morning 

snippy poems on napkins

an old couple holding hands

yet, darkness looms nearby

at almost every corner

a poor man is ridiculed

the teenager hides his wrists

i guess it's best

if we list the positives

forget the negatives

leave stress behind

fall in love, have faith

think of it this way,

do you want everyone

to comment on how it's

such a shame,

you were so pretty?

or would you rather

them celebrate, remember

good memories?
