Silly Things

I say that they’re silly

matter-of-factly

because I’m too kind

to just say they’re wrong

But I want to scream

at their retorts

want to ask

“How many hands have you healed?”

“How many have you held?”

“How many hearts have you broken?”

“How many do you hold?” and

“Do you even care about the difference.”

There is so much in life you can’t know!

I remember the night

my best friend slit her wrists and bled out

in bed beside me.

It was a week before I even realized.

This same girl gave up her future

as a doctor,

so that I may have one

on which I am still undecided.

That doesn’t make me selfish,

or her special.

That’s just how life goes.

and I wish that you were intelligent

enough to OPEN YOUR D*MN EYES

You’re wrong.
