Silent Road
I remember the days when you were nine. Where rainbows cast a kaleidoscope line. Our homes were safe and borders clear, no longer the case, alas our fears. I would hold your hand and guide our way, down dusty roads past fields of hay. Through storms and wind of ocean spray, we walk in silence to get far away. What seemed like a road that had not end, our shoes full of gravel, our souls to mend. We arrive with hope, our journeys end or so we thought, we walk again. One day you will ask why did we flee? Why did we come to Idomeni? 2016, the year of the Child Refugee. No simple answer, no axe to grind. Just political pawns in a refugee mine. We find ourselves a few years now, our boat a float, no dipping bow. We survived our journey, our family is whole, our dignity intact at least for now. I remember the days when you were nine, we'd cast away in search of time. To be together, to search our souls for days like this our story told.
