The Silence of Change
As much as girls need to obtain modesty,
Guys need to obtain respect.
As much as we want to blame society,
In reality it is neglect.
Instead of being self righteous,
Why don’t you look back and reflect?
Why can’t we look up?
We continue to bow our heads.
The loud mouth with the scars,
The recluse with the pain,
It’s easier to laugh,
Then make sense of what goes against the grain.
We cry and plead,
Through our obnoxious high tones.
When that bell sounds,
We head through those glass doors for home.
The routine persists,
We keep ourselves strait.
Smile through the hurt,
Lie through the guilt,
Laugh through the hate.
We jumpstart at six.
Shut down by 6:05.
After that it’s fake smiles,
Or hiding in a sweatshirt pretending to be shy.
It’s not the grades we care about,
Not the teachers,
Not the school.
It’s our never ending need for acceptance,
Blinding to the common fool.
