She Left

My childhood fled away from my life
Absconding , like a prisoner from jail
Knowledge rescued me
But imprisoned me in "MATURITY" state county
With no chances of bail ...a foe!

One day she decided to call
And ask about my well being
I told her I was suffering and felt incomplete
Struggled to adjust to frame
I needed her back...I pleaded...
Expected answer was "yes I will"
But all I got was an aggressive no

Said she visited me two days ago
In a form of a....
Joan!!! My old friend!
Reminded me about when I was young
The chubby , merry , little girl I was
With skin brown as chocolate
Even held me in her arms for minutes
But couldn't feel my love for her anymore

Noticed I had made new friends
Depression , anxiety & antisocial
My presence gave off dull vibes
So she decided to leave
I apologized for my ungratefulness & lack of emotion
She said she was relieved

I asked her why she had to leave
She paused...
And laughed in my disbelief
I stood there silently aghast
And finally asked
*"What was hilarious"*
But then she started crying.

"I had to go & allow you to grow up"
"You're mom wanted you to be matured at 9"
Said she spoke to my mom and was told to leave
"Thats what happened that night"
"You better believe"
"That's why they reached out to MATURITY to replace me"

As I was telling her about Maturity
Speak of the devil...and Lucifer appears
Disconnects the call and looks at me in disgust
I look away and silently sob
He pulls me violently and says "Look into my eyes"
I tell him "no , go away & don't ever return"

He laughs out loud
And seemed to be proud
Caught a hang of himself and said
"Well babe , guess what?! I'm here to stay"
"You're all grown up and have to be with me every day"
"So stop acting childish , and do what I say"
"Cause whether you like it or not , you'll do everything my way"

A soulful write on childhood and the golden memories. The narrative form is quite appealing!
