That Sets Me Free

Poetry, my dear

was something I fear-ed

would be sappy and gushy

romantic and mushy

that it had to rhyme

and that it took a lot of time

to write just one line

Yet I write today

because I say

that poetry can be-

sappy and gushy,

romantic and mushy,

it can rhyme

and take time

to write one line,

but it's more than you see

It's powerful, it's deep.

Meaningful to me.

Small words on paper,

stuck in my head later,

that set me free.

Words that speak more than voices,

challenges our ideas and choices,

battles the conformists,

the cause of their torments,

the creator of this piece-

poetry that sets me free.

Me
