What seemed a rock is now a jewel.
Your beauty was an unexpected gift.
To ignore this gem would be too cruel,
When the veil of doubt I’ve just begun to lift.
Every new facet is a joy to me,
Revealing bright pieces of the jewel I love,
A diamond viewed without artistry
Is still a diamond, but in the rough.
I thought to see a rock, of earth and stone
Not the gleam of a jewel well-polished.
In shock and awe I stood on my own
My presumptions now demolished
So my love gives setting to your stone
Each facet joined, each face its own.

i wrote this about a place in Chicago I visited. I didn't expect to be comfortable there, but it turned out to be a very beautiful place.
