Selfish Solitude

On this island, in the middle of nowhere

I find pleasure in my solitude.

The one thing I could never covet (despite the

Never-ending depths of my selfish nature),

Is you and your sweet love

They say if you really, truly love something

You have got to let it go

I would let you go anywhere as long as it’s

Not here. Here, survival is unsure and

The nights are long and cold.

The only thing that I shall take with me,

As selfish as I am, is hope. The hope

That you are happy and safe and warm.

In the arms of civilization, comfortable-

And awaiting my return from this island

Of solitude.
