See a Smile

Location

Teachers, we try.

We stay up all night.

The work you assign

well, theres a fine line

between hard and cruel,

driving our struggle in school.

We read, we write.

and we're still not bright.

Bright enough for you to give a damn about us,

while we argue and talk back and cry and fuss.

But deep inside, I do understand

that each and every assignment indeed had a plan.

Giving us the skills that now give us power,

even if it took us hours and hours.

Just give us a break, everyonce in a while.

And maybe, just maybe, you'll see a smile.
