Seconds Remain

I look at you

Honest brown eyes

Asking me a question

without words.

You smile

and we laugh

but yet you seem sad.

I take your hand, trying to grasp the reason

why your heart seems to be breaking.

One day

I catch you glancing at the clock

and my own heart stopt ticking for a beat.

Because now I understand.

Time is flying;

time that we are losing with every second

and you are worried

for when I will be gone.

I pull you close

and whisper

"It's okay."

It seems like only seconds remain.

But every second I am with you

Every smile, tear, or laugh

is a gem

I will keep forever.
