School Dreams

I had a dream

A wonderful dream

A dream about being in school.

Teachers shine light on the students

The light makes us all fly.

As we land, we lie in the clouds.

We each have one to ourselves

Each cloud is filled with hope

Love.

Opportunity.

Self-worth.

Our races, genders, and sexual orientations don't define our success.

Our abilities and work-ethic do.

These light-shining teachers would discuss such inequalities.

They'd shine that diversity light every day.

I wouldn't feel like an outcast in a home that'll never be mine.

I wake up.

I realize it's all just a dream.

But my school is slowly changing.

It's slowly becoming my dream.

The saddest part of my reality

Is that not everybody will get to fly.
