A scare in the night

1,2,3,4,5,6.... Clear
The angel of death watches over his shoulder
Each second his presence becomes bolder
The boy lays lifeless on the cold asphalt
For a second the rapid chest compressions halt
The medic checks for a pulse
Nothing... Then in a heavy gasp the boy takes in air
His guardian gives death a glare
Just in the knick of time he was spared
His friends still stand scared
They aren't out of the clear yet
Was this drugs or a stupid bet?
Questioned by cops and they all bent
Quickly spouting truths on how the day had been spent
Each wanting to save themselves from the light
But each played a part in almost ending his fight
Will this epidemic cycle ever end
Or will they continue until their own Farwell does send
