Sand

amorphous grains of quartz piled high,

tumbling, rolling

together further degrading,

microscopic rainbows,

tiny magic gems.

halite sprinkled in,

like glue to hold together the earth.

mats of wet spongy earth,

hardened under the pressure of bare toes.

waves lap at the grounds crumbly perfection,

silica and feldspar stand boldly

against an ocean of slow cooling crystals.

the building blocks of castles.
