Sadness

Dear Sadness,

Sadness, you are a dark creature,

leaving me without a shred of hope.

I fight to outrun you, and I fight to outpace you;

there you stand, lurking in my shadow.

Sadness, you are a devouring creature,

destroying any pleasant thoughts that come my way.

You hunt me, and you pursue me;

I stand on the edge of your destruction.

Sadness, you are a sickening creature,

filling my head with your own distorted ideas.

You corner me, and you close in on me;

I freeze in your presence.

Sadness, you no longer control me.

Now you will flee in my presence.

I face you, and I stare you down;

your bark has no bite.

I am now your master.

Sincerely,

Sarah A.
