rusted wishes

I threw a coin in the fountain,

as I did when I was young,

this time was different;

no candy, unicorns, or new toys

this time,

 I held the coin to my lips

and whispered your name,

knowing it was pointless,

but my eight year old sister

waited for me to throw my penny in.

I watched it sink into the water,

you were my stars, my moon, my sky,

and now,

my wish in the fountain

e.s.
