Roses of the Aftermath

The ground is barren. the sky, a morning grey

Two roses stand together in the silent day

One is satin black the other crimson red

No one can see them but the dead

They appear when the fighting is gone

To show what has been done

They are in the battlefield

No weapons do they wield

In the dry mud

They tell of death and blood

To say what life is worth

They show a bleeding Earth

The show a bleeding earth

The land is desolate. the air a heavy gray

Girls stand side by side through the after day

One is shadow black, the other, scarlet red

There is no one to see them but the dead

They come when all is gone

To signify all is done

They are the roses of the aftermath
