RIDING THE RAILS

RIDING THE RAILS
BY MIRA WILDER
2014

He travelled the railways
hopping the lines,
his buddy's told stories
and drank mad dog wine...
Joel was a loner
kept to himself
he wanted justice
so he escaped from the jail.

Singing one of these days
I'll get back home
I miss the palm tress
in Southern Californ...
I miss those warm nights
its too cold here...
can't wait til I get to
Mexico, Senor!

He was
Hopin the law wasn't tailing his shadow
that winter stayed warm
along East through Nebraska
Justice was served
by his own hand
Now America's most wanted
was searching for him

Long ago
a stranger had come
turned love into hate
right into wrong
a yellow taped
home invasion
three bodies found
one in the basement
he loved them all...
a wife and two kids...
No justice served
they blamed it on him
He swore on his life
but it did no good,
so he honored his family
like the law never would.

chorus:
Hoping John Walsh
wasn't tailing his shadow
that winter stayed warm
east through Nebraska
riding the rails he was free
But America's Most wanted
was searching for him.

He was getting tired
but there’d be no sleep
riding the rails
never knew when he'd eat
the memory of love
two kids at his feet
stuck in his gut
for his maker to meet

Hoping the law wasn't tailing his shadow
that winter stayed warm along east
through Nebraska
Justice was served
by his own hand
Now America's Most Wanted
was searching for him!
