respect

A burden becomes a bond
When we reach out a helping hand
A hand becomes a smile
Becomes a laugh
Becomes a friend
But our pride as women
Or our pride as men
Makes men afraid to push
Afraid to help
Afraid to give
We’ve lost respect for others
Trying to gain some of our own
At first with good intentions
But we go about it wrong
We compare the things we have
Or what our parents can afford
Putting down the ones who can’t
Like respect is a reward
That’s why it won’t fulfill us
it’s not something you can buy
When you don’t respect yourself
You can’t expect it from a guy
You are who you want to be
The choice is always yours
Represent the life you want to live
Let your actions replace your words
