Rescued Pieces

When I take my leisurely strolls down memory lane I always run into your innocent smile. Yet when I see you in the realm of reality we walk right past as each other without even making eye contact. See in my memories my favorite pieces of you have been rescued and preserved forever. Those qualities I love so much are still just as pure and beautiful as white daisies swaying on a summer breeze. I travel to the memory of us underneath the colored lights, the smell of funnel cakes and cotton candy in the air.  I see you standing tall with a proud smile holding out that stuffed animal. And all i see in your eyes is a desire to make me happy. I travel to chilly Friday nights under the bright stadium lights, my eyes fixed on number 55. I travel to the first time you surprised me with that warm kiss that left me breath less, weak in the knees, pressed up against a locker. You’re much more beautiful in my memories so that’s where I plan to keep you.  I’m terribly sorry but there just isn’t any room for you in my reality anymore. I don’t have time to run my finger through you hair. I don’t have time to watch you sing along to silly songs. And i don’t have time to let you keep breaking my frail heart. But don’t you worry when i come across you in memory lane I’ll always greet you with a loving smile. I hold no grudges there because when i see you there i see my favorite rescued pieces.
