Remembering Red

Why is it
That we try so hard
To please our parents
Our friends
The everyday people around us
What is it that
We fail to find in ourselves
That something that makes us
Tire quickly with who we are
Who we were meant to be
We’ll take criticism
And store it away, clutched in our desperate fingers
Taking it out at some unexpected moment
In our life
At that time when we have lost our way
And when the darkness is
Ready to swallow us up
Unable to convince ourselves of a purpose
Among our blooming society
We remember.
We realize that all along it didn’t matter whether
The sun was hidden away;
We still followed our heart
We looked to Ol’ Red for guidance
Created our own footsteps in the sand
And traveled a path never taken
Because we looked inside
And figured out who
We were meant to be.
