To Remember

A baby girl escaping a Russian orphanage

A lost boy alone in New York

A player searching for love in Canada

and

A Navy sailor full of adventure from Massachusetts

This is my story

All I need is to remember

Crash of a window

Thrill of the chase.

Through Poland to England,

All over the place

Checked for lice

Two bald heads to the land of the free

Hoping they will arrive.

Yet the quota is met

No more are allowed

They can’t turn back

Off to Canada now!

They are my ancestors

All I need is to remember

Loud noises of city life

So new from the cold boat

All alone filled with fright

Too many characters

None of them his

The poor little teenager

Who was a strong survivor within

He is my heritage

All I need is to remember

Smell of dirty oil and sweat

Pride and grin worn only for style

No love stole his heart yet

The traveled Russian girl

All grown up

Robbed the playboy’s heart with a twirl

Their love is in my blood

All I need is to remember

Groaning from war

The sway of the boat

Delivers one more to the shore

Traveling up the Alcan

To the Last Frontier

With camera in hand

Jack of all trades

Snapping film

Taking names

Scholar of all he wanted to be

This is my family

The fleeing girl

The strong survivor

The enamored rebel

The curious scholar

All I need is to remember

My family
