Red as Blood( If Red Riding Hood was the woodcutter)
Red as Blood
It was light when I left.
There was a soft breeze.
Rustling
The flowers.
Grandmother,
You told me to go
In the daytime
You said,
"Nothing bad
Happens in the light."
The road was long and winding.
I wore my best cape.
The one red as blood.
My axe tucked in my belt.
There are still splinters in my hands.
He was waiting for me.
He bade me goodbye.
"Goodbye, my sweet."
And kissed me on the cheek
He had a smile like a wolf.
You told me not to talk to strangers.
And I didn't.
I swear, I didn't.
But you never told me
Monsters wear a trusting face
And a familiar smile.
It wasn't a stranger I had to fear.
He found me in your house
While you were sleeping.
How could you sleep through it?
I was screaming
And my cloak was wet.
The red on it
Wasn't just dye.
How could you not hear me?
He said,
"I'm going to eat you up."
My axe was in my hands.
My best cape
Is red as blood.
It's all I can see.
Grandmother,
The wolf is gone.
There is only me left.
Sometimes, I'm not even sure about that.
Grandmother,
Why did you never tell me?
When I killed him
I killed
Part of me too.
