Rape Culture

Location

The culture believes if she's wearing yoga pants, she's asking for it.

The culture believes if she's walking alone at night, she's asking for it.

The culture believes if she's been out drinking, she's asking for it.

The culture believes if she's showing any skin, she's asking for it.

The culture believes if she's not a virgin, she's a slut.

The culture believes if she's not dressed modestly, she's a slut.

I am hidden by the culture.

I have been taught to despise myself but to keep myself beautiful so maybe someday, someone would love me.

I have been taught to focus on my flaws and that if I have any sort of confidence in myself that I was a bitch.

But maybe that's what we all are.

Maybe society is just a bitch, but if it is, why do we listen?

Why do we continue on this horrible path it's set us on, don't we ever want something more?

Don't we deserve to be ourselves and be seen for who we truly are?

But we can't

The media takes us and teaches us

Skinny pretty skinny pretty big ass and tits skinny pretty

Boys sporty athletic manly pretty

It shouldn't matter, but it does

We are our own curtains, we hide behind the mask we give ourselves

The mask the culture told us we needed to be accepted, but maybe, just maybe, we can live without it.
